You can send one message to several people at the same time. TextMeFree.com tested this servicie and it worked very well with texts arriving internationally in a few seconds. BulkSMSservices state that adverts are added to the end of your free texts, so the message size you have depends on the length of the advert, although some of the texts we received didn't contain any ads.
