This service is very good, aimed at University staff and students (you can subscribe without being staff or a student) and the website includes many other services besides SMS. However, you can only send 5 free SMS per month. There is also a paid service on offer. You must register, give you mobile number and complete a form to send an sms to your mobile which contains an activation code. This form is slightly confusing as it contains two form fields, one for your mobile number and the other for the activation code - to obtain the activation code you must first send the form with the activation code form field blank. Text messages arrive within seconds.
